PGA Championship Nike Apparel

It’s August. It’s hot. It’s humid. And it’s the PGA Championship. The professional golf season’s final Major Championship gets underway today at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York and Nike athletes are prepared to weather the, er, weather in an array of lightweight, breathable, moisture wicking shirts pants and hats. Nike has always been at the forefront of creating performance apparel technology, utilizing technical fabrics that enhance athletic performance, and those technologies will be on full display at Oak Hill.  At the PGA Championship, Nike athletes will be wearing designs from the Fall 2013 collection featuring Dri-FIT UV for protection from the sun and Dri-FIT Stretch for superior mobility. Thirteen Nike Tour players will be competing at Oak Hill and you can find all their apparel, shoes and accessories at the DGW PGA Championship 2013 Collections page. Here’s a glimpse of some of the apparel featured.   Tiger Woods Tiger will be wearing items from, what else, the Nike Tiger Woods TW collection, featuring polos with laser-perforated collars for enhanced breathability and both the iconic posture performance kimono chassis and the mobility chassis for increased range of motion. Thursday through Sunday, Tiger will wear: the TW Designer Print Polo in Light Armory Blue; the TW Emboss Polo in Gamma Green; the TW Print Polo in White/Black; and, the TW Engineered Stripe Polo in Hyper Red. TW’14 Golf Shoes will be on his feet.   Rory McIlroy McIlroy will defend his title from 2012 while sporting looks from the Nike Tour Performance Fall 2013 collection, which offers innovative technical fabrics featuring lightweight breathability. Thursday, we’ll see Rory in the Fashion Bold Stripe Polo in White/Game Royal and Modern Tech Pants, coordinated in Game Royal. Friday, the defending champ will wear the Fashion Gradient Polo in Gamma Orange and Saturday the Mobility Stripe Polo in Black/Gamma Green.. The Mobility Polo offers the most stretch in the Nike line and is extremely lightweight. Rory will finish the championship on Sunday wearing the Light Weight Tech Polo in Gamma Blue. Each day, he will be traversing Oak Hill in Nike Lunar Control II Golf Shoes.   Charl Schwartzel   The 2011 Masters Champion will compete this week wearing the sophisticated designs of Nike’s Fall 2013 Tour Premium Collection, as well as looks from the Tour Performance Collection on Saturday. To begin the tournament, Schwartzel will wear the Nike Precision Polo in Black on Thursday, and the same model Friday in Cherrywood Red. On Saturday, Schwartzel will go with the Team Nike look, wearing the Bold Stripe Polo in Distance Blue from the Tour Performance Collection. He hopes to contend for the Championship on Sunday while wearing the Nike Premium Tartan Pocket Polo in Light Gridiron Heather.   Nick Watney Watney looks to capture his first Major title while relying on the Nike Tour Performance Collection to stay cool and comfortable under the immense pressure of the competition. Thursday’s first round is critical, and Nick looks to post a solid first round number while pairing his Light Weight Tech Polo in Sonic Yellow with Nike Flat Front Tech Pants in Light Armory Blue. On Friday, Watney will wear the Embossed Pattern Polo in Gamma orange. For the weekend, he’ll sport the Nike Mobility Polo in Black/University Blue on Saturday and the Light Weight Heather Polo in Black/Stadium Grey on Sunday. Watney will wear the Nike Flat Bill VR_S Tour Cap and Lunar Control II footwear all four days.   Check out all your favorite Nike athletes, their apparel and accessories, at DGW.

Ashworth Cardiff Sets Major Record

Heading into the US Open at Merion Golf Club there was talk that someone might shoot 62, breaking the 18 hole scoring record that has been in the books since 1973. It became obvious early in the tournament that no scoring records would be broken at this particular Open, but there was one record that was established. When Justin Rose tapped in for par on the 72nd hole for what would be a 2 stroke victory, he became the first golfer to win a Major championship while wearing spikeless golf shoes. He did so wearing a version of the Ashworth Cardiff Golf Shoe.   Golfers everywhere have embraced the spikeless golf shoe, and cleat-less shoes are turning up at Tour events on a regular basis, as well, despite the fact that golfers tend to hold tight to tradition. As club technology has proven, however, golfers don’t care one whit about tradition if they can gain a competitive edge. When it comes to our feet, that edge has to do with the comfort and performance afforded by a less rigid shoe. Thus, sales of spikeless shoes were up 136% in 2012 and estimates of their current use among all golfers ranges between 38% and 43%.   The spikeless shoe itself has undergone a technological transformation since CBS obligingly introduced the world to Ecco Golf Street casual golf shoes via repeated shots of the king of cool, Fred Couples, looking bored, indifferent, and in contention at the 2010 Masters. Today’s styles feature a variety of innovative design elements geared toward enhancing the natural motion of the foot, while also delivering the stability a golfer needs to swing with power and confidence. From the new sneaker-like Adidas adicross Tour Spikeless Golf Shoe to the classic-looking Ecco Men's Tour Hybrid GTX, there are styles and colors available for every taste.   Check out the Ashworth Cardiff and all our spikeless golf shoes at DGW today.

The Nike Tiger Woods TW '14 Golf Shoe Is Here

Tiger Woods picked up his 4th victory of 2013 and the 78th of his career at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass on Mother’s Day. The season is still young, but in winning over ½ of his PGA Tour starts thus far, Tiger is setting a torrid pace that leaves many speculating that 2013 will be his best season ever.   Tiger captured his second Players Championship while wearing his new Nike Tiger Woods TW’14 Golf Shoes. The TW’14s further enhance the fit, feel and function first developed with the TW’13. Like the previous version, the new TW’14 utilizes Nike Free technology designed to mimic and conform to the natural motion of the foot. The innovative outsole allows the golfer to keep contact with the ground longer to better harness the energy of the foot to the shoe, and the shoe to the ground. A new upper offers improved ventilation achieved through the use of strategically-located perforations that increase breathability without compromising waterproof protection.   “With this shoe, we worked diligently to take every detail to a new level,” said Tobie Hatfield, Athlete Projects Innovator at Nike. “In the TW ’14, Tiger wanted more stability with mobility and we’ve accomplished that by using Nike’s Dynamic Flywire Technology which moves with him, but stabilizes his foot when he swings. We also increased breathability of the shoe by using a full mesh tongue.”   The new TW ’14 also has a new color available-Cool Grey with Vivid Blue and Venom Green accents, which will be available August 1, 2013.   The Nike Tiger Woods TW ’14 Golf Shoes are available for pre-order today at DGW.

At The Masters: What Did Tiger Wear Today?

Tiger Woods tooled around Augusta national in the company of 14 year old Tianlang Guan on Tuesday in preparation for the start of the Masters, and then talked to the press. He said he feels comfortable at Augusta National, and that he’s comfortable with “every aspect” of his game right now. That has to be worrisome for the rest of the field. He also looked comfortable, and why not? The man has his own apparel line. Today he was sporting the Nike Tiger Woods TW Trajectory Polo in Electro Orange and Nike Tiger Woods TW Ultralite Pants in Stadium Grey/Metallic Silver.   We’ll let you know what Tiger’s wearing today, so you can be appropriately attired tomorrow. Check out the entire Nike Tiger Woods TW Collection at DGW.

Tiger Woods, Nike and You: Get Dressed for the Masters

Spring is finally here and that means The Masters is right around the corner. In the modern era, no one is more closely associated with winning Green Jackets than Tiger Woods, and in 2013 Tiger takes his reclaimed status as World Number One to Augusta as the prohibitive favorite. We at DGW can’t wait to see what happens this year at Augusta National, but like fans everywhere, we’ll just have to wait and see. We don’t have to wait, however, to see what Tiger will be wearing at the year’s first Major Championship. We have the inside scoop on all of Tiger’s Nike apparel for each day of The Masters, and you can get it right here at DGW.   We all know Tiger will be wearing red on Sunday, but which red is the question, and we have the answer. Tiger’s 2013 Sunday Masters polo will be the Nike Tiger Woods TW Emboss Polo in Hyper Red/Metallic Silver. He’ll also be wearing the Nike Tiger Woods TW Ultralite Pant in Black/Metallic Silver, and if it’s chilly enough, you’ll see the Nike Tiger Woods TW ½-zip Cover-Up in Stadium/Metallic Silver. Each day, Tiger will be wearing his Nike TW 13 Golf Shoes, TW VR_S Tour Cap and Nike Dri-Fit Golf Glove.   You can check out all of Tiger’s Masters outfits—the stuff he’ll actually be wearing for the entire Masters Tournament—right here at DGW’s 2013 Masters Tournament Tiger Woods Collection. Tiger Woods and Nike Ready for The Masters

The Masters begins in just two weeks and every golf fan knows which golfer will be favored to win. Tiger Woods recently regained World Number One status over fellow Nike athlete, Rory McIlroy. With his third victory in five PGA starts this year,  Tiger appears primed to add a fifth Green Jacket to his collection. Like Jack Nicklaus before him, Tiger seems always to be at his best at Augusta National, the home of The Masters. For even the casual fan, there’s just something about the year’s first Major that heightens interest in the game. It’s a special place, Augusta National, and the Masters is a special tournament that breeds special champions—like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. To commemorate the Masters, Nike introduces a special edition shoe. The Tiger Woods TW13 Limited Edition Golf Shoes are available today at DGW. The Limited Edition TW13 is Tiger’s shoe, made to his exacting specifications, and decked out with deep green, yellow and red accents on the outsole, eye-stay and tongue. Modeled after the Nike Free running shoe, the TW13 is known for its superior feel, fit and function—and Tiger wears them for every round. The TW13 may not be the only reason Tiger has regained his Number One position in the world, but they are distinctive enough, just like the Masters, to inspire this special version for a limited time and in limited quantities. Lightweight Performance: Adidas Adizero Golf Shoes Review

Want to lose some weight next time you play golf? How about 6900 pounds? That’s how much less you’ll be lifting with your feet if you lace up the Adidas adizero Golf Shoes next time out. You see, the new adizero weighs only 10.6 ounces, which is 38% less than Adidas’ previous tour performance shoe, the Tour ATV, and that translates into a savings of  6.5 ounces per step taken. Since the average round can take 17,000 steps, you will save 6900 pounds (6.5 x 17,000) by wearing the new adizero.   Adidas eliminates weight through what it calls the SprintFrame™ outsole, which weighs just 3.4 ounces and is constructed from a high performance, proprietary elastomer called Pebax® that is exceedingly strong and exceptionally flexible. The upper is a microfiber leather called SprintSkin™ that is (surprise) lightweight and durable. The outsole has rounded sections allowing for more efficient weight transfer and a ten spike configuration with a high-abrasion rubber heel crash pad for a better heel strike while walking. The adizero is constructed from a new anatomical last that is wider in the forefoot, allowing improved fit and feel.   Lighter upper + lighter outsole = less fatigue + better scores. The math is simple. Ok, that “equation” is not really math, but you get the point. Now get the shoes. You’ll find them right here at DGW.

Nike Adds Fritelli To Tour Staff

Dylan Fritelli, recent University of Texas graduate and first team All America, entered the professional ranks last week as the newest addition to the Nike Tour Staff. Fritelli, you may remember, sank a 20 foot birdie putt on the 18th hole of famed Riviera Golf Club earlier this month to win his match and secure the NCAA Divison I Championship for The Longhorns. After signing with Nike last week he immediately justified his professional potential with a tie for 33rd place at the BMW International Open in Cologne, Germany.   Fritelli plays a complete set of Nike VR Pro clubs from driver through wedges and trusts a Nike Method putter as his flat stick of choice. On tournament days he tees it up wearing head-to-toe Nike Tour Performance apparel and Nike Lunar Control Golf Shoes.   Check out Dylan’s equipment, apparel and other Nike products, all of which are available here at DGW:   • Driver: Nike VR Pro Limited Edition 8.5-degree • Fairway Wood: Nike VR Pro Limited Edition 3-wood/15-degree • Hybrid: Nike VR Pro 19-degree • Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo (4-PW) • Wedges: Nike VR Pro 52-, 56- and 58-degree • Putter: Nike Method 004 • Apparel: Nike Golf Tour Performance Collection • Footwear: Nike Lunar Control You might also want to take a look the DGW "What the Pros Play" page to see what Phil, Tiger, Ernie and a host of other PGA Tour stars are featuring in their bags in 2012.

Tiger's Magic Nike Shoes

Last week we were trying to decide what more we could do in anticipation of the launch of the new Nike TW ’13 golf shoe on June 8, 2012. The new shoe features some remarkably advanced technology, and although we’ve featured the shoes in a banner and “Staff Picks” tease, we were looking for something to punch up the ad campaign a bit. I suggested that we claim the shoes have magic properties that would make everyone play like Tiger. That claim was rejected based on some kind of vague legal technicality. The shoes are quite remarkable, though not magic, but I needed a hook.   So I called Tiger and told him he needed to win The Memorial, as it would make our ad copy a little easier to write. Tiger said, “Dude, I’ve already won the thing like four times…and besides I’m planning to win the US Open in a couple weeks, so you can use that.” I pointed out to Tiger that four Memorials in the past are just that—in the past—he needed to do something for sales this year-and we didn’t want to hear that “Hey, I won at Bay Hill” excuse. Bay Hill is ancient history in the world of sales—what have you done for us lately? As for the Open, that victory will come after the release of his new shoe, so that’s like no help with pre-orders.   Tiger remained a bit reluctant, saying he didn’t want to peak before the Open, but I pointed out that he could win both, if for no other reason, than as a favor to me. I also suggested and it would be fun to win his 73rd victory, tying Jack’s total, at Jack’s own tournament. Kind of homage to the old codger. Tiger’s not one for sentimentality, but he did like the idea of tying Nicklaus’s career wins while Jack looked on, so he said he’d take care of it and I sat back to await my copy.   I was beginning to think Tiger had double-crossed me until he performed yet another minor miracle by chipping in on # 16 for birdie in what Jack himself pronounced as one of the most amazing shots he’d ever seen. I, for one, was furious. I texted Tiger immediately that we were expecting on each occasion where he executes an impossibly difficult flop shot from the rough, landing it on a tiny, tiny spot of hard-baked green sloping severely away from him, that he would at least have the courtesy to make the ball pause on the lip of the cup with the Nike Swoosh showing, ala number 16 at Augusta, before allowing it to drop. Really, that’s not so much to ask is it?   I also told him to ace the celebratory fist pump. We need him to do a leg kick after each birdie in order to show off the new shoe—preferably a karate-style kick which he holds for a three count. I’ve yet to hear back from Tiger, but since I also told him in that same text to birdie #18 Sunday as a kind of “in your face” exclamation point, I assume he read it, although he inexplicably left out the “birdie kick” after draining the putt. I guess I cant’ expect Tiger to adopt all my suggestions. For instance, I never once saw him stand at attention and execute a left-handed military salute after each drive in order that the cameras might pick up the Nike Swoosh on his glove. But hey, I’m thinking the karate kick idea is money, so don’t be surprised to see the “Tiger Birdie Kick” in the near future.   In the meantime check out Tiger’s awesome new performance shoes. The Nike TW ’13 Golf Shoe is not just worn by Tiger, he helped design it. The shoe is extremely lightweight and offers Nike’s Dynamic Fit system for individually-fitted support and stability. They were designed to allow, rather than restrict, the natural motion of the foot. The TW ‘13s have an athletic look because they are an athletic shoe designed with the input of the world’s most accomplished athlete to optimize performance on the golf course. Let me just say this. These shoes were designed to meet the demands of the best golfer to have ever lived. He wears them. So should you.   The new Nike TW ’13 Golf Shoe is available for pre-order today at DGW.
